Do you remember your first time? With AutoCAD, that is. It\u00a0can be a daunting experience. (With great power comes great \u2026 learning curve?) If you’re new to\u00a0AutoCAD, need a refresher, or know others in a similar boat, you can now relax. Welcome to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to AutoCAD Basics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Start<\/a>The first stop in our\u00a0weekly guided tour is the Guide’s\u00a0“Basics” section<\/a>. (The entire\u00a0Guide covers\u00a0the, um,\u00a0basics of AutoCAD. So consider this first section\u00a0the basics of AutoCAD basics.) It\u00a0offers a gentle introduction to\u00a0starting a new drawing, using the Quick Access toolbar for basic file commands, and getting oriented to other user interface components including the mouse buttons.<\/p>\n

We’ll show you the different ways you can access AutoCAD commands. For example, if you\u2019re fast on the keyboard, you may prefer typing commands in the Command window. Or if you\u2019re visual and don\u2019t want to remember command names, you may prefer to choose your tools from the ribbon.<\/p>\n

We’ll also show you\u00a0how to specify units, how to choose a drawing template file that preserves your favorite settings and styles\u2014and how to use the Esc key in case you ever get stuck.<\/p>\n
