When I first learned about AutoCAD adding the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2023\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-8F9E9A25-A27B-4C09-9DA0-3EA0C1E0207B-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\">Blocks Palette<\/a> back in the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/whats-new-in-autocad-2020-blocks-palette\/\" target=\"_blank\">2020 release<\/a>, I remember thinking, \u201cOh great, that\u2019s all we need is <em>another<\/em> way to insert blocks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll also admit I was wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve since become a huge fan. It literally takes all the good things about all the other insertion methods and collects them into a one-stop block shop (say that three times fast).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be like I was to start with, or maybe you\u2019ve just kept inserting blocks like you always have. So, if you\u2019re unfamiliar with the Blocks Palette, let\u2019s take a tour together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_1.jpg\" data-lbwps-width=\"1001\" data-lbwps-height=\"190\" data-lbwps-srcsmall=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_1-300x57.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1001\" height=\"190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_1.jpg\" alt=\"AutoCAD Blocks Palette Ribbon\" class=\"wp-image-12986\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_1.jpg 1001w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_1-300x57.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_1-768x146.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1001px) 100vw, 1001px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>First things, first. How do you activate it? You can find it in the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2020\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-D20EF1D7-4135-48A7-B68E-65BF3BFF3D70-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ribbon<\/a> in the Palettes panel of the View tab. Since it\u2019s a palette, it behaves like all the others you\u2019re probably used to. Personally, I like to keep it (and a few others) anchored on either side of the drawing editor and to have it auto-hide. But of course, you do you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-palette-tabs\">The Palette Tabs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll find four tabs in the palette along with some other controls. We\u2019ll start at the top and work our way down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first tab contains your current drawing\u2019s blocks. By default, all the tabs will display their blocks as \u201clarge\u201d icons, but you can change your view for each with the drop-down menu in the very upper right of the palette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You even have multiple ways to insert your blocks. You can drag and drop, pick and click, or insert via the block\u2019s right-click menu. Speaking of the right-click menu, check out all the various tools you have. You can choose to insert and explode from any of the tabs, and from any tab that\u2019s not the Current Drawing, you have options to redefine your block definition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next tab contains your recently used blocks, which can be really handy. Notice that in its right-click menu, you have tools to let you remove a single block or to remove the entire Recent list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_2.jpg\" data-lbwps-width=\"985\" data-lbwps-height=\"690\" data-lbwps-srcsmall=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_2-300x210.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"985\" height=\"690\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_2.jpg\" alt=\"AutoCAD Palette Tabs\" class=\"wp-image-12990\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_2.jpg 985w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_2-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_2-768x538.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 985px) 100vw, 985px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I really like the third tab, too. It\u2019s your Favorites list. You can populate it from the right-click menus in any of the other three tabs. Like the Recent list, you can also manage your favorites by removing blocks here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, keep in mind that the tabs other than Current Drawing stay populated from drawing to drawing and even from session to session. So, whether it\u2019s your favorites you\u2019re looking for, something recent, or something from one of your standard block libraries, it\u2019s literally just a click or two away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette.gif\" data-lbwps-width=\"1920\" data-lbwps-height=\"1080\" data-lbwps-srcsmall=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette-300x169.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette.gif\" alt=\"Blocks Palette Favorites\" class=\"wp-image-12993\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That gets us to the final tab, entitled Libraries (for all you trivia buffs, for its initial year of release, this tab was called Other Drawings).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Libraries tab provides a way of navigating to folders from which you can choose drawings to insert as blocks or choose from the blocks defined in those drawings. Both methods are widely used, as neither is right or wrong. People just store their blocks differently. The Libraries tab lets you use either method or both simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All four tabs have a collapsible section at the bottom where you can preset all your insertion options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_3.jpg\" data-lbwps-width=\"916\" data-lbwps-height=\"684\" data-lbwps-srcsmall=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_3-300x224.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"916\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_3.jpg\" alt=\"Blocks Palette Libraries Tab\" class=\"wp-image-12997\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_3.jpg 916w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_3-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2022\/10\/11\/Blocks-Palette_3-768x573.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 916px) 100vw, 916px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"summing-up\">Summing Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I guess you can call me a Blockhead (the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charlie_Brown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Charlie Brown<\/a> kind) for having such a bad attitude about the Blocks Palette initially. In an odd twist, I guess now I\u2019m still kind of a Blockhead if you think of it as a diehard fan of something (such as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deadhead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grateful Dead fans being Deadheads<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmybuffett.com\/parrotheads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jimmy Buffet fans being Parrotheads<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I hope I\u2019ve shown you, the Blocks Palette takes the best parts of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/best-of-au-videos-tips-for-tool-palettes-and-cad-standards\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tool Palettes<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/easily-access-drawing-content-how-to-use-designcenter-in-autocad\/\" target=\"_blank\">Design Center<\/a>, and the Insert command\u2019s gallery feature in the Ribbon and puts them all together into an easy-to-use, singular interface. If you haven\u2019t tried it yet, take my advice and give it a go!
