The application menu contains common tools for creating, saving, and publishing a file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-web-app\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Web-Help\/files\/AutoCAD-Web-Help-Command-Line-html-html.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Command Line<\/a> \u2013 A text area reserved for keyboard input, prompts, and messages. The Command line can be docked, anchored, or floating within the editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-architecture\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2018\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Architecture\/files\/GUID-66CD1AEE-6C9B-40C7-BE1A-BA631E0CF602-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\">Contextual Menu<\/a> \u2013 A ribbon tab that is displayed only when a certain type of object is selected, or when a certain command is started. For example, selecting a hatch or table, or starting the MTEXT command displays a corresponding contextual ribbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-architecture\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2018\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Architecture\/files\/GUID-66CD1AEE-6C9B-40C7-BE1A-BA631E0CF602-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\">Contextual Popup Menu<\/a> \u2013 A menu accessed by right-clicking on a selected object. The AutoCAD crosshairs can be displayed anywhere from 5% of the screen size to 100%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2021\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-2C96D553-8BF9-48F7-9473-0D23877AF446-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Drawing Area<\/a> \u2013 Area where drawings are displayed and modified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-map-3d\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2021\/ENU\/MAP3D-Use\/files\/GUID-DECC325C-2943-4FBF-AE77-0042940C2318-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Drawing Extents<\/a> \u2013 Smallest rectangular area containing all objects in a drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-lt\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2019\/ENU\/AutoCAD-LT\/files\/GUID-19459659-1DF0-4FA4-B16E-4DEF6FBEA040-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CUI (Menu)<\/a> \u2013 Generic term for an AutoCAD menu. It is an XML-based file such as <em>acad.cuix<\/em> that stores customization (menu) data. You modify a customization file through the Customize User Interface Editor. CUIx files replace MNU, MNS, and MNC files that were used to define menus in early releases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-lt\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2019\/ENU\/AutoCAD-LT\/files\/GUID-B3F0CB28-99D6-48B5-99C7-3E58249BB18C-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enterprise CUI<\/a> \u2013 A CUIx file that is typically controlled by a CAD manager. It is often accessed by many users and is stored in a shared network location. The file is read-only to users to prevent the data in the file from being changed. A CAD Manager creates an enterprise CUxI file by modifying a main CUIx file and then saving the file to the support location defined in the Options dialog box, Files tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-lt\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2020\/ENU\/AutoCAD-LT\/files\/GUID-FE301EEC-11BD-4243-8263-2CDDD3FA02C0-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Main CUI File<\/a> \u2013 The CUIx file that defines most of the user interface elements, including the standard menus, toolbars, keyboard accelerators, and so on. The <em>acad.cuix<\/em> or <em>acadlt.cuix<\/em> file (the default main CUI file) is automatically loaded when you start the product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-lt\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2019\/ENU\/AutoCAD-LT\/files\/GUID-D148C822-34AC-4A12-897A-60742F375406-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Partial CUI File<\/a> \u2013 Any CUI file that is not defined as the main CUI file. You can load and unload partial CUI files as you need them during a drawing session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/not-to-miss-autocad-ribbon-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ribbon<\/a> \u2013 Palette displaying buttons and controls used for both 2D drawing and annotation and 3D modeling, viewing, and rendering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad-lt\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2020\/ENU\/AutoCAD-LT\/files\/GUID-AC84784E-DF12-4FC9-B318-CAB2B92D8ACB-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ribbon Panel<\/a> \u2013 A set of labeled controls, related to a task, grouped together in a ribbon. Typically, a geometric model is created in model space and drawn at full scale. You can set the UCS origin and its <em>X<\/em>, <em>Y<\/em>, and <em>Z<\/em> axes to suit your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2021\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-C91AEB4B-CFD6-4691-B3F5-463AA1631863-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UCS Icon<\/a> \u2013 Indicates the orientation of the UCS axes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2020\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-E658D5E7-EE5C-4A06-BF34-F71CDB363A71-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WCS<\/a> \u2013 Fixed coordinate system that defines the location of all objects and other coordinate systems in a drawing. In new drawings, the user coordinate system (UCS) is initially coincident with the WCS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/have-you-tried-manage-and-customize-autocad-workspace\/\" target=\"_blank\">Workspace<\/a> \u2013 A named set of menus, toolbars and dockable windows (such as the Properties palette, Design Center, and the Tool palettes window) that are grouped and organized so that you can work in a custom, task-oriented drawing environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"autocad-glossary-navigation-cad-terms\">AutoCAD Glossary &#8211; Navigation CAD Terms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2019\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-1A2A6927-5916-4207-A3FB-379A94A27527-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">File Tab<\/a> \u2013 A tab at the top of the drawing window that corresponds to an open drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2021\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-A8C1E8DA-56FA-4957-8FE3-7E54DEF7CC83-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Layout Tab<\/a> \u2013 A tab adjacent to the Model Space tab at the bottom of the drawing that provides the 2D environment in which you create layout viewports and place title blocks for plotting.
