You will put these tools to the test in product design, building design, and manufacturing output. We'll also welcome your feedback on usability and efficacy. By participating, you'll gain insights into new workflows and uncover possible processes that use Autodesk's Informed Design software. Our objective is to ascertain what you, the user, find valuable, and how we can help eliminate industry silos.

With engineering and design changing rapidily, the toolsets used to create the products of the future need to change. This class will take attendees through how the Product Design and Manufacturing collection, in particular the connection between Fusion 360 and Inventor, can address the challenges of the future. We will show how a connected cloud workflow can help designers and engineers take a product from concept through to manufacture utilising a truely integrated, advanced manufacturing toolset.

In this session, you will learn how to generate all potential Manufacturing Informed Design variants. We'll accomplish this by using Airtable, an intuitive cloud-based data organization and collaboration tool. By integrating Airtable with the power of Manufacturing Informed Design software's implementation of Blockly logic, we will guide you through the rapid generation of a comprehensive table encompassing all valid combinations of your product. Furthermore, we will demonstrate how Airtable can seamlessly interface with the Manufacturing Informed Design API to generate Revit families based on products developed in Inventor, and use the Manufacturing Informed Design website to see each variant that has been placed into the layout. Through this integration, you will witness firsthand the remarkable speed and efficiency gains achieved by caching each variant of your product.

This session will present the many changes we've made to our Vault and Inventor systems in order to accommodate the different requirements of a product-based design and manufacturing environment as opposed to a project-based one. Making this change has seen a reduction in the engineering support the manufacturing team requires, which in turn allows the engineering team to come up with new ideas for more products. Increased reuse of assemblies and reconfiguration of systems have led to new opportunities for sales while building on the established experience base. The ways in which we have moved to simplify procedures, reuse models, manage our data, and track OEM use are definitely scalable both up and down, therefore allowing everyone to take advantage of the changes we've made. This was a long process for us, and we'd like to share our experience and potentially help you prevent some of the headaches we encountered along the way.

The process starts with PDF files of guitar designs, which are imported into AutoCAD. These are correctly scaled and once the shape of the guitar body is finalised, the new shape is imported into Inventor. The new shape is overlayed onto an AnyCAD model in Inventor and then modified to suit the new design. The electro components are positioned into the guitar body and virtually wired. Some drawing verification is done to ensure that everything is the right size, as the guitar needs to sound right, then renderings are done in Inventor. A nesting study is then run to optimise material usage for a future production run. A CNC study will also be created for future manufacturing runs. The prototype will be built with hand tools. Next I show how to create templates for building the guitar body in AutoCAD. In this instance, 1:1 layouts are printed out and then used to cut solid oak to size. Additional templates for the pockets are also created.

During Autodesk University 2021, we shared a developed workflow for how designers can bring data together through designing the part, the PCB (printed circuit board), and even how to manufacture the plastic components. With the complexity of electronic part designs, there are often various aspects that we need to consider in order for the part to both work and perform as expected. In this class, we’ll demonstrate how the Autodesk Fusion 360 workflow has matured to incorporate mechanical engineering aspects to smooth this product design workflow. We’ll use a sample product, the Autodesk University Digital Badge, to demo how to integrate mechanical design requirements and simulation into the product design process.

Part One is a roundtable discussion about the theories and tactics of Generative Design. Attendees will be presented with a problem to optimize an existing component in a larger system. The problem definition will be examined while also considering how to extrapolate the performance of the existing part without having prior FEA data. Part Two is a hands-on lab where attendees will take their written plan and build the Generative studies to solve the problem. This lab will allow attendees to fully explore the Fusion 360 interface and to develop all needed geometry, boundary conditions, and study parameters. Part Three is also a lab where the generated results will be compared in the “Explore” environment and then successful solution candidates downloaded from the cloud. Results will then be modified using modeling tools and validated with Fusion 360’s FEA solver. Finally, results will be run through the CAM tools inside Fusion 360 to generate valid toolpaths for end-product machining. Part Four is a workshop that will take place in the Factory on the One Autodesk Expo floor and provide boot camp attendees with a first-hand look at the processes that go into manufacturing parts created with generative design. Attendees will get up close to 5-axis CNC machinery and the various workholding, tooling, and operational considerations involved.

Exploring not just alternative designs, but also resource and production alternatives, helps to drive better environmental impact. And designing for longevity and, most importantly, reuse of products and materials drive manufacturing toward the net-zero impacts that we need to truly create a sustainable world. Start by exploring how products come to reality and the alternative. And then use tools like Autodesk Fusion 360 to explore manufacturing alternatives and energy consumption that finally lead to creative design for disassembly and reuse.

Just because you designed a plastic part, doesn’t mean it can be manufactured at scale. Product design has a significant impact on the cost and timing of part manufacturing. In this class, you’ll learn how to identify and address costly manufacturing issues with Injection Molding Simulation in Autodesk Fusion 360.

While it's common knowledge that additive manufacturing (AM) has become an integral tool in product development, it can be difficult to know how to fit AM into your workflow. In this talk, we'll discuss how to effectively use AM to accelerate product development and prepare designs to ramp up to production. We will include an overview of the common additive technologies and materials currently used by product designers, and look at the advantages and disadvantages of each from a product development perspective. Building on this overview, we'll discuss example workflows and case studies where additive manufacturing was used effectively to reduce time to market and mitigate process and design risk.
