Learn how to automate decision making in type 5 designs by connecting structural analysis, product data, and off-site construction workflows across the Autodesk platform. This class will demonstrate how to integrate a Structural Analysis Design Engine (SADE) with Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud) to automate shear wall placement, then propagate those requirements through Informed Design to drive product behavior. Using the Informed Design API and parametric logic authored in Inventor software, we'll embed structural intelligence into configurable wall panels assigned to Autodesk Forma masses enabling consistent, data-driven outcomes from early design through fabrication.

Coordinating Revit curtain wall layouts with configurable manufactured panel units is often manual, slow, and difficult to validate at scale. In this hands-on lab, you will use custom Dynamo nodes backed by the Informed Design API to connect a Revit curtain wall layout to a configurable unitized panel. Starting from a prepared model and scaffolded graph, participants will extract panel dimensions, send geometric data to the Informed Design API, and generate a complete manufacturing data set with shop drawings and parts lists. We'll generate a report highlighting supported, unsupported, and changed panel conditions in Revit. And we'll unpack the API concepts behind the nodes so you can adapt the workflow to your own products.

The construction industry is facing multiple challenges, such as increased demand for buildings, as well as sustainability pressures and skills shortages. Add to that the risk of natural disasters and global events, and the industry is forced to look at efficient, replicable, and sustainable practices. Industrialized construction is one of the ways the industry is trying to resolve these challenges. But the question remains: Is industrialized construction a solution, or can we do something more? In this class, you'll learn how the Manufacturing Informed Design API takes industrialized construction to the next level by introducing productization into the solution. It provides for defining, designing, and building with customizable construction products that are manufacturable and can be assembled on-site or in the shop. You'll learn how informed design supports Inventor and Revit software through Autodesk Forma in delivering sustainable and replicable solutions for homes, schools, and health care.

Hear the story of how Cascadia Structural Timber Solutions went from being a small hand fabrication and truss manufacturer to a fast-growing glulam fabricator, looking to lead the way in new mass timber buildings using Informed Design in Inventor software. The mass timber industry is on the rise, and with it comes unique challenges on the jobsite. As many projects move to a hybrid of steel and wood, we need to be able to provide products that can be easily used and understood early in the design process. With Informed Design we can predefine structural members—from columns to beams to preassembled trusses—that can be added at the beginning of the design process. We can provide flexibility for our customers by giving them specific parameters they can change while still allowing the design to be easy to manufacture. With our push to implement lean manufacturing principles, these designs allow us to scale our business and increase profitability while providing a great experience for our customers.

This session will outline a workflow for creating a Revit model of a steel composite cable stay bridge by using a combo of Grasshopper, Dynamo, and Informed Design for Inventor software. Modeling a bridge structure poses challenges due to its complex geometry, which adheres to a vertical, horizontal, and super-elevated roadway profile. Consequently, the steel girders, beams, and connection details must align with this 3D roadway profile, complicating the creation and placement of Revit families. For this challenge, COWI used Grasshopper and Dynamo to automate the creation of steel geometry, parameters, and insertion points, ensuring accurate orientation for family placement. Additionally, Informed Design was used to transform various iterations of intricate steel connections into families, which were then positioned using a Dynamo workflow. The integration of visual programming and Informed Design has been vital in efficiently producing complex bridge structures with a focus on Automation, Integration, & Customization.

What if you could design with the certainty that your vision can become a reality, seamlessly integrating into the world of industrialized construction? Autodesk Informed Design for Revit software is a solution that brings manufacturing information to the beginning of the design process. In this session, we'll learn how architects can use informed design to collaborate with subcontractors to share manufacturing model data. We'll discuss how this workflow can improve project certainty and prevent reworks.
