For K&A, BIM had been well-established across all types of building projects since 2011. This roadmap included: Assessing current staff; building a strong team of modelers, auditors, and developers to achieve an internal critical mass; implementing BIM across all four K&A design centers; and ensuring one consistent set of standards, in accordance with ISO 19650. Project 13 is an industry initiative led by the Infrastructure Client Group (set up by the Institution of Civil Engineers) to establish a better business model for infrastructure delivery, improving productivity, performance and mitigating the skills risk. The World Economic Forum estimates that 1 billion people will need to be reskilled by 2030. Of that number, 62 million people work in the AEC, manufacturing, and M&E industries. In particular, the construction and manufacturing industries are undergoing major digital transformations, which is a catalyst driving new jobs and skills for workers in those industries. Advanced Work Packaging methodology supports the work on an EPC project, from initial planning throughout detail design to construction execution; such methodology encompasses the overall process flow of all the detailed work packages (construction, engineering and installation). Saipem will give practical examples of their AWP implementation and how they have used Autodesk Forge development platform to solve their challenges. This session will show how a data-centric solution can integrate data coming from a variety of legacy systems, presenting opportunities never experienced before to the users. BIM is part of a broader dynamic of digital transformation of railways system operation. Therefore, the BIM implementation go further than BIM Modelling. Railways is a system of system that require to define from the need, operational concept and requirement. System requirement is shaping BIM goals. Railways system is made of multiples sub-systems, managed using various technology. Information flows between different tools, their traceability and validation are in fact critical for railways system integration. SNCF setup different initiative. The Minerve project is funding by French authority, lunched with main French railway players. It’s aimed to enable BIM requirement for railways subdomain. SNCF participate in IFC Rail project for interoperability between subdomain for system integration. SNCF working on overall railways system architecture to specify required railway’s function and information flow for system integration both in its geometric and functional dimension.

For Maire Tecnimont, going digital is all about capitalizing on technology to boost employees’ productivity; streamline engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) workflows; and deliver on-time projects of the highest possible quality. In this scenario, Forge is one of the most valuable enablers of the digital transformation process. In this class, you will discover how to exploit Forge technology for building analytical, strategic, and operational dashboards; integrating different data from different sources; and extending capabilities of the existing platform through dedicated customization. We will particularly focus on maximizing Forge application performances to enhance the user experience. With the OTG format, the multimodel feature, and other specific procedures, we can handle thousands of 3D objects and relevant data sets in the blink of an eye. In conclusion, we will discuss the benefits gained by adopting Forge technology, highlighting its disruptive impact on company traditional workflows.

BIM processes with federated 3D models and centralized CDEs are well-accepted norms in project delivery. Yet, the benefits derived from this digitalization are more in favor of the engineering companies than the manufacturing owner. Moreover, the owner's transformation focus is mostly on digitizing highly regulated drug releases and manufacturing performance. Converging these two digital approaches is not often seen as a priority. Yet, it may be a foundational step toward a successful digital transformation for businesses and their people. We will make the case for data convergence between digital assets (descriptive digital twins) and manufacturing data & analytics to solve business problems, like accessing the right information & documentation without time loss. We will share how the human-centric approach made visible the foundational benefit of BIM by linking objects to information using BIM 360 (collaborate) and data fusion technologies and what KPIs can demonstrate value.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) is the gold standard for planning and executing capital construction projects and has been proven to deliver superior results in safety, schedule, and budget. This discussion involves a case study of how an EPC provider, APTIM, implemented AWP practices, selected software packages to support workflows, and leveraged internal stakeholders to drive adoption. The pace of key workflows such as workface planning and creation of installation work packages was immediately accelerated by the use of a platform of point solutions which includes iConstruct and BIM 360 for work packaging and the use of PlanGrid to visualize the work packages and drawings in the field. The involvement of stakeholders such as middle management and project foremen is highlighted as a key success factor. The combination of process, software, and motivated project staff resulted in a 50% improvement in the “time on tools” as measured by an independent audit conducted by ConstructX.
