The old days of tissue paper seemed to have died with Civil 3D software, or have they? The mentality and methods used to grade are often using the computer as a sketch tool. We will look at how to use Civil 3D software to provide us with information and grade our site and subdivision efficiently and with a well-defined model. We will learn about feature lines, grading groups, grading objects, corridors, and surface editing.

Upskilling of people is a central theme of the future of making. As the tools we use to design the world of the future develop at an ever-increasing pace we understand the need to invest in our staff to make the most of these advances. At the end of 2017, 6 years after we published our first BIM strategy, we had reached an important milestone. For the first time, more than half the time our staff spent using Autodesk products was in 3D BIM software, and two-thirds of our global community of Autodesk users had used a 3D tool in the last 12 months. Although a cause for great success, it was also a time to reflect. What about the remaining third? What could we do to create better training opportunities? How could we ensure that capability was consistent across our business? How can we ensure the right people are working on the right project at the right time? This industry talk will explore these themes and share the lessons we have learnt delivering a training programme comprising 130 classroom courses, attracting 700+ trainees, and delivered in 20 counties by a network of 9 Autodesk partners, all in a 10-month programme.

This class will focus on the acronym CREW, which has four keys areas of bringing BIM (Building Information Modeling) and virtual design and construction (VDC) to the field teams. BIM/VDC has been established with our teams in the jobsite trailers, but getting it to the people in the field has always been a struggle. We’ll focus on what’s been helpful for our teams so that you can use the same lessons with your teams. The four areas of CREW are the following: collaborate, research, engage, and work. Taking from what we’ve learned in our process, we’ll go through the different steps, discuss the pieces that usually get missed, and expand on the areas that were helpful and successful. We will share helpful techniques to assist with the development and implementation of an effective technology adoption strategy, leveraging best practices and standards for applied training, and information on industry tools for assessing skills gaps, which can be used to create a skills taxonomy and personalized approach to training. The presenters' goal is to inspire viewers to think outside the box and consider the importance of developing a technology adoption strategy that will accelerate technology adoption, increase productivity, and drive growth across an organization.

Using a "real-world infrastructure project," this class will walk you through the step-by-step process of post processing drone-collected photogrammetric data. Using products available within your AEC Collection (ReCap Photo software, ReCap Pro software, InfraWorks software, and Civil 3D software) surveyors and designers will be able to generate a working existing-condition drawing.

In this instructional demo, we’ll show how Fusion 360 Electronics software can be maximized with Fusion 360 strong modeling tools to produce a distortion-effect pedal end to end. We'll discuss the design of the effect in detail, as well as how having an integrated workflow between electronics and mechanical tooling simplifies and expedites the design process. Throughout the demo, we will be highlighting the specific features in Fusion 360 that enabled us to go from idea to completed prototype.

This talk will focus on a case study using a common Fabrication database in Revit software for engineering through a design-build project. With an effort to vertically align engineering, estimating, virtual design and construction (VDC), and manufacturing on a common platform, it was important to use the same common database. It was necessary to determine the hurdles involved in adapting engineering workflows to use Fabrication Parts and how we were able to resolve them. Andrew Cameron, project manager with Hensel Phelps, will share his insights from pioneering 360-degree reality capture on his project, the $1.2 billion Harvey Milk Terminal 1 at the San Francisco International Airport, since 2016. He and his team of 16 field engineers have worked closely with HoloBuilder over the last three years to invent and build out many of the workflows and features that are essential on tens of thousands of construction sites around the world today, including 360-degree markups and the JobWalk app itself. He will discuss how to use 360-degree documentation to drive value on a billion-dollar project for the client, stakeholders, and his project team. He will also share his experiences of how to successfully partner with construction technology providers to build the technologies you always wanted. To highlight the team’s successful innovation partnership, he will reveal the latest co-developed solutions to speed up and even automate reality capture on projects.
