At Southern California Edison (SCE), we have standardized and obtained efficiencies in our design and engineering processes by using AutoCAD Utility Design software as our transmission and distribution graphical design tool. This class will present the approach used to unify our design process using AutoCAD Utility Design, beginning with external work management through the workflow and ending with the validation of the design and bills of materials that are being sent to an external work management system. Along the way, we will discuss accessing external mapping/GIS and SAP® asset information within AutoCAD Utility Design and as well as the tool's ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements throughout the design process. With an emphasis on realizing the benefits of an IPSEC-based (Initiate, Plan, Schedule, Execute, Close) work order lifecycle, we will also discuss SCE’s solution to transmission and distribution design interactivity through our estimating and material ordering phases and our approach to eliminating the need for manual entry directly into our SAP enterprise resource planning systems (ERP).

This is an update to last year's class, Choosing Autodesk PLM 360. This class provides a customer perspective regarding the ease of enhancing and maintaining a Autodesk PLM 360 software tenant. After go-live, Greenpoint Technologies, Inc., has continually developed and enhanced its tenant reporting capabilities, Vault software integration, and enterprise resource planning integration. In this class we will discuss what was easy, what was difficult, and what you should look out for.

This is a description of the journey that Unverferth Mfg. Co., Inc., took when the company went from drawings boards and paper to a virtual digital world using Vault Professional software. We will talk about how the firm merged 3 independent and separately located Engineering departments into a single department. We will demonstrate our procedures—including file management, items use, and establishment of a 100%-digital Change Order and Approval process—and we'll talk about how we did them. Then we'll show how we are integrating with our enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

This class covers the challenges and victories of a 100-year-old company that has transitioned from drawing on a drafting board to AutoCAD® software for 2D and 3D CAD, then to AutoCAD® Mechanical design software, and finally to Inventor® 3D CAD software. We describe how the company has adapted its own standards over the years to expedite the release of drawings to manufacturing in a very time-critical environment. Finally, we discuss how the company has decided to take technology by the horns with both 3D prototype/model design and a business enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

Hear how JE Dunn Construction teamed with Autodesk Consulting utilizing Forge platform-based APIs to develop integration between JE Dunn’s SharePoint-based Dunn Dashboard and BIM 360 Document Management. Learn how the document sync integration has enabled construction documents to be easily accessible to the construction professionals at the jobsite and maintained JE Dunn’s Dunn Dashboard as the single source of truth for all project documents. This BIM 360 Document Management-based integration is built on top of the project automation that was developed for JE Dunn ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and further has enabled the extension of the firm’s construction-based data and document flows into the construction ecosystem.

Product lifecycle management (PLM) systems such as Autodesk Fusion 360 Manage software or Upchain run in the cloud while Vault software and most enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are still installed on-premises. Hidden behind firewalls, on-premises software cannot directly receive update notifications from cloud applications, and have difficulty synchronizing with changes from cloud systems. Polling data from large data sets is time consuming and inefficient. Automated synchronization and digital transformation of data between hybrid PDM, PLM, and ERP systems require more-sophisticated solutions. This class will demonstrate how to efficiently send data from cloud to on-premise systems. We’ll use different examples to demonstrate how the Autodesk Forge Webhooks API and Autodesk Fusion 360 Manage Action Scripts are used to automatically update entities in Vault software, or how cloud PLM systems automatically send Bill of Materials (BOM) data to on-premise ERP systems without the need for the on-premise software to poll for data.

Like a recipe or business card, items represent things within your business. Items represent the components that the company manages, assembles, sells, and manufactures. Autodesk Vault Professional software introduces the ability to generate items and manage an item master. Within this class you will learn what items are and how to provide both engineering staff and non-engineering (no access to a CAD application) with access to the data. We will cover how to issue new stock numbers and build intelligent naming schemes. You will learn how to attach your CAD data smartly with proper property (metadata) information mapping. You will also learn how to provide a mechanism for exchange of data between Vault and enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing resource planning (MRP), and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems. We will discuss release management for lifecycles and revision schemes. You will learn how to create bills of materials (BOMs) for your items. Finally, we will cover change orders and how items are integrated.

This class will focus on high-level workflows between BIM 360 Cost Management software and various, standard, industry enterprise resource planning (ERP) packages. We will also introduce the middlewares making these connections, and the importance of connecting project controls with construction ERPs.

Wait, what? You can create a bill of materials (BOM) in AutoCAD software? In this class, we’ll explore the options for creating a BOM in AutoCAD and the embedded tools within AutoCAD Mechanical software. We'll export the BOM both manually and automatically. We'll check in the drawing to Vault Professional software, and use Vault software's tools to manage and manipulate the BOM. Then we'll explore our options for sharing the BOM with ERP (enterprise resource planning), Autodesk PLM 360 software, Microsoft SharePoint, and other systems.

In this session, you will learn about the proper care and feeding of your BOM, how to prevent using the wrong vendor to source your components, the evolution of the BOM, comparison and markup—what’s changed, and how to see the history. The past, present, and future of your product's bill of materials.

Connecting engineering (Vault software) with purchase (ERP: Enterprise Resource Planning) is a mandatory step. Nowadays, technology helps, as most ERP systems provide APIs or the like. This session will show you how Vault and ERP can be connected in a direct way, so operations are immediate, data is kept just once (no data redundancy), and users know right away whether the action was successful or not. You will see a live integration between Vault and Microsoft Dynamics NAV, and we will also talk about other ERP systems like SAP, and others.

Deriving a product design into a manufacturing process is a continuous challenge. Catching up with the latest design changes is often a manual and error-prone, slow process performed in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. With the Vault PLM solution, this process can be vastly improved as both the engineering BOM and the manufacturing BOM are accessible and linked in a single system. Workflow mechanisms help ensure that data received from engineering gets transitioned properly and extended to define manufacturing processes. The resulting manufacturing then gets published to ERP upon approval of manufacturing change orders. In this session, you will see how this process is managed in an integrated environment. We will use a custom-built smart editor to automate this process as much as possible and to provide visual indicators to help ensure a proper alignment of structures in an easy way.

Experience with VACCO Industries the effort of upgrading from PLM 360 software to Fusion Lifecycle software. This presentation will explore the planning and requirements used for the upgrade, as well as best practices and lessons learned. Working closely with Autodesk, this lecture can assist all existing Fusion Lifecycle customers and new potential customers as we discuss the pros and cons of each environment. We'll include a live demonstration and a peek into VACCO's workflows, integrated workspaces, and other system integrations with Vault data management software and ERP (enterprise resource planning).

Building hundreds of single-family homes is a challenge impossible to tackle without the help of a well-integrated IT infrastructure. Therefore, we took BIM 360 software into the heart of our Enterprise Resource Planning (Microsoft Dynamics NAV) and helped our different departments thrive in accomplishing their tasks. Out of our fully integrated construction chain, we will show the window procurement, installation, and repair procedure as an example of how to interact with the BIM 360 model in our ERP, and how to exchange data instantly between the ERP and BIM 360. As the access permissions settings were defined already in our ERP, Forge gave us the possibility to sync the security settings for hundreds of projects and stakeholders instantly.

In this roundtable discussion, users of Inventor Engineer-to-Order software and Configurator 360 software can share their successes and difficulties about specific techniques they’ve used in implementing Sales Engineering and Engineering Automation Solutions. Expected topics will include Inventor software drawings and bills of materials; data management; integration with third-party systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), client relationship management (CRM), and general databases; powerful deployment and maintenance strategies; on-boarding new staff; and so on. It is common for most sheet metal fabricators to have an ERP (enterprise resource planning) or MRP (material requirements planning) system, as well as software that addresses their needs for nesting and machine programming. What is not commonplace is for those systems to talk to one another very well. This class will present a case study in which the users are designing in Inventor software, managing their revisions and model data in Vault software, using a cloud-based ERP system to input sales and inventory information, and using TruNest to drive all of the machines connected to their sheet metal fabrication operations. What this class will demonstrate to attendees is a fully integrated sheet metal fabrication workflow, from the design of the product to its manufacture on the shop floor.

Bills of materials (BOMs) serve several purposes throughout a product lifecycle. While BOM data is usually created by CAD designers and managed in product data management (PDM) systems such as Vault software, it also needs to be shared with departments outside engineering where BOM information is used for production planning, assembling, or purchasing. Each of these steps requires a different view of the same BOM. Sometimes BOMs even need to be extended with information such as "work stages" or "work orders.” Sharing and enriching BOM information is usually done in systems other than Vault, such as Fusion 360 Manage or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. This class will explore bills of materials and their different uses. We'll showcase different ways to share BOM data among product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, PDM systems, and ERP systems. And we’ll analyze the available APIs to help you implement BOM workflows among Vault Professional (PDM), Fusion 360 Manage (PLM), and ERP systems.
