For years, Saudi Binladin Group (SBG)- a construction industry leader in Saudi Arabia where most government contracts are 2D-drawing based- did an in-depth study of the loss of time and the aborted works, ending with the determination that Building Information Modeling (BIM) represents both an enhanced technology and a process change. In this class, SBG will share how it builds its own formula of conversion from a self-execution engineering 2D firm to a construction engineering management BIM model firm. SBG innovation setup changed in year 2012. It is imperative that efficiency in project delivery is maximized and the commitment is to safe and sustainable construction. Traditional methods have been replaced by more efficient, transparent processes and technologies that require different project planning and different data exchange platforms. SBG has chosen Autodesk BIM solutions release 2013/2017 as the foundation of building a dedicated BIM platform for SBG megaprojects and developing a BIM Execution Plan (BIM charter).

This class is for users who want to get more out of pressure pipe network design using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 software. We will cover general tips and tricks for increased productivity and present a step-by-step walkthrough of creating pressure network parts using tools included in Civil 3D, but that you might not know about.

Understand your survey data. Keep your total existing surface model (EG) in a state which is dynamic with the ever-developing site, so that your design team is aware of the status of the model and where the information has come from. This class will step you through creating a model from external survey information and additional topographical surveys along the way. Included are step-by-step instructions on how to manipulate surface data with your new topographical survey data versus your old superseded data. You will be able to process additional topographical survey information into a larger surface data set by taking control of your base survey data.

Corridors—they aren't just for designing roads, that's for sure. You can make them do some very amazing things, and in the process they can seem to break in the worst possible way. This class will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software creates corridors, which will better help you to understand how to troubleshoot them. You will see some of the most common corridor mistakes and learn how to fix them, some more advanced corridor troubleshooting, how to choose the correct subassembly for the job (even if it's not obvious), and what to do if the correct subassembly doesn't exist.

This class will present options for using a 3D model for construction.

This class has two parts. First, we will review a study on using corrected residual in-molded stress (CRIMS) data to predict warpage. In this study, we selected five parts of increasing complexity and material flow path. We simulated five different materials with various process parameters. From the simulated data, we selected high-warp scenarios for molding and warpage and compared the results with CRIMS and without CRIMS. The study showed the importance and effect of warpage. Statistically, we found that using CRIMS to predict warpage showed a 10 times better probability of being accurate and a 29% improvement in accuracy. Next, we will look at using supplemental data. CRIMS data is specifically measured/generated by Autodesk® Simulation Moldflow® software by molding trails. The test method is expensive. Therefore, for selected materials, we can supplement CRIMS with equivalent material in the existing Moldflow data base. The experiment shows the effectiveness of method.

Shear imbalance is a tooling gremlin that was often ignored until exposed by John Beaumont about 10 years ago. The causes can be subtle but the problems that result are not. In the last few releases, Autodesk has significantly improved the capability for Autodesk Simulation Moldflow software to evaluate shear imbalance. Last year at AU, Beaumont provided an excellent technical presentation on the subject which resulted in those techniques being adopted by 3D Shapes on projects. Evaluating shear imbalance benefited our customers. We hope by highlighting key points for properly evaluating shear rate and and looking at recent examples, we can now help you benefit from these capabilities too.

In this class, we will present several workflows for customizing Autodesk Inventor software Content Center libraries. The topics we will cover are based on the most common questions from Inventor users about customizing Content Center libraries. We will focus on the Material Guide and how to transfer family properties in custom properties; synchronize part number and description; and set the file name, browser display name, and part number for Content Center parts on insertion. We will also cover editing Content Center standard and custom family templates and updating the components already inserted.
