For developers and service providers in a wide range of fields other than construction—such as mobility, robotics, mapping, security, and maintenance—the value of reliable, high-quality spatial information on buildings and infrastructure is expected to increase in the future. In Toyota Woven City—which is currently under construction as an experimental city where various technologies can be tried for the well-being of people—we've been exploring the ideal form of spatial information, including building information modeling (BIM) data, while closely observing the needs of a wide variety of users. Based on the knowledge we've gained there, we've been developing spatial information of building structures for various users outside the construction industry from the client's standpoint, as well as developing databases and APIs to provide this information in an open-data format. We hope that sharing our experiences will help accelerate the development of spatial information as the future social data infrastructure.

Bridge construction in Norway in 2024 is a different ballgame than it was in 2015. We've transitioned to full digital design and construction without drawings. This would have been impossible without a rich Revit API. We've created our own add-in, scaling from 10 users in 2019 to 1,300 users in 2024. What a success! But the challenge has not been object-oriented coding in C#, but rather scaling the knowledge. How can we scale technology efficiently and fast? What are the obstacles? It can be a challenge to manage project files across a large team. Knowing what to put in each drawing can be tricky, especially when considering newer users who can become overwhelmed by complex drawings. In this class, we'll address these issues and solve them with an innovate file structure. We'll show the concept of "incremental" design files that allow many project members to work on simple drawings simultaneously. This isn't your normal divide-and-conquer method. We'll show how this enables new team members to learn on simpler and less intimidating files, preventing delay to the larger design. So, if you still put large amounts of data in a single drawing—such as all the corridors, grading, and finished grade—or all pipe networks in a single file, this class is for you.
