For several years, KLH Engineers has led efforts to bridge the gap between AutoCAD and Revit software through machine learning, enhancing our deliverable by building intelligent models from CAD plans. Expanding on our foundational work from 2019, our tool now automatically generates Revit wall elements with precise thickness from AutoCAD drawings, eliminating the problem of thin wall creation and significantly saving time. In this session, we'll demonstrate how machine learning is integral to our process. We have incorporated advanced algorithms that accurately place door and window families within Revit models, using AutoCAD data to inform our workflow and put the "I" back in building information modeling (BIM). With today's rise in construction, design costs, and extremely tight budgets for CAD work, we must ensure we are using the most-efficient methods in Civil 3D software to meet project demands. We can easily go over budget by overmodeling in Civil 3D. Conversely, when we fail to properly use Civil 3D tools, we can waste time and money. So herein lies the question: When do I fully model and design something, and when do I draw some polylines? When do I hold, and when do I fold? Let's take a journey into how a complex corridor model may not be best for a site plan where a feature line is sufficient. A simple polyline can represent and benefit more than a full creation of a pipe or pressure network system. As we look at keeping some things simple, there are times to make all the abilities of Civil 3D work for us. Longer roadway projects may require conditional corridors and complex targeting. How much is too much? There comes a time to think through all scenarios—or just simply show the cards.

Developing a great set of assets for Autodesk Factory Design Utilities can be a challenge. In this class, we will discuss and demonstrate the top techniques used to create the most-functional factory assets.

"What did you do?" I find myself on the phone with a user at least once a week staring at files that tend to be unnecessarily large and cumbersome. In this class we discuss multiple workflows and correction methods to clean up large and corrupt drawings. Having approximately 20 years of experience in the Civil and Land Survey focused on technical support and workflows, I have found several tricks and workflows that can greatly reduce the size of files and prevent file corruption. This becomes an ever-increasing problem as companies start utilizing unconventional storage methods like cloud and remote collaboration.

Blocks are important in AutoCAD software. Working with blocks is not always fun, and can be tedious. There are missed opportunities when objects should be blocks, but are missed or the effort does not justify the reward. And if you always insert a block a certain way, shouldn't AutoCAD just know this? AutoCAD 2024 software introduced machine learning to help productivity. The block-related features got even smarter in AutoCAD 2025. Let's take a deep dive into this. Like what? Finding the blocks to replace is no longer a tedious exercise. AutoCAD now offers assistance by suggesting blocks that are similar to what you've picked or recently placed. AutoCAD can place blocks in a manner similar to a recently placed block. Discover a workflow to convert multiple instances of selected objects into blocks. Or use the AI-driven Object Detection feature to scan your drawing and find objects to be converted into blocks.

Railway systems have complex rules to follow during the design phase, and their automation is highly required due to the massive and systematic work that needs to be done, and the very detailed list of materials necessary. The catenary system is one of the most complex systems in railway. Using Civil 3D, Revit, and Dynamo software, we can automate the design process and create the best workflow—which we'll demonstrate in this session, including complex parametric families, and automatic section views for each mast with dimensions. We'll also demonstrate some other systems' design automation, like CCTV and the automatic creation of camera field-of-vision 3D views for the train driver and metro station platform cameras to achieve the best installation criteria and avoid rework during construction phase. Plus, we'll explore how to convert all of these scripts to plug-in buttons with pyRevit.

In the design process of highway projects, applying building information modeling (BIM) technology, using parametric design methods, and delivering complete project models is a challenging task. During the design process, issues such as efficient design workflow, data exchange, model segmentation, WBS info, and digital delivery need to be addressed. With parametric design tools like Dynamo software, engineers can automatically create models and complete property assignments based on project requirements, significantly reducing repetitive work and allowing them to focus more on the design itself. This case study will show you the complete parametric design workflow and data exchange for this highway expansion project, with a focus on parametric modeling using Dynamo and Python. Through parametric modeling via programming, stakeholders can achieve efficiency gains of two to three times compared to manual modeling methods for roadbeds, pavements, bridges, and tunnels.

Advanced nuclear is challenged to design and construct on short timelines, with smaller budgets and fewer workers. Digitalization can help companies overcome these constraints. Unfortunately, a digital twin (DT) is often presented as a monolith. This results in organizations abandoning DTs as having benefits that are minimal or unrealized in time. Many perceive DTs as too large an undertaking to even begin. However, digitalization isn't a track meet; it's a marathon of incremental milestones. And, like all races, it has a starting line. This session will summarize a journey that Argonne National Laboratory and Implexus Lab made to digitize the Mechanisms Engineering Test Loop (METL), a test facility for advancing sodium fast reactors. Components were designed with Inventor software and assembled in Navisworks software, and AutoCAD software generated construction documents. Integrating with Revit provided a DT foundation. Ultimately, the suite of Autodesk tools enabled the creation of a DT boasting live data visualization within a virtual reality (VR) environment.
