This panel, consisting of thought leaders from the AEC industry will explore the impact of using the digital thread for infrastructure management. We will discuss how this approach can streamline project execution, reduce time and cost waste, and provide a single source of truth for stakeholders. The panel will also cover the cost implications of not adopting a model-driven approach and the benefits of maximizing data throughout the asset lifecycle, from planning to operations. By adopting a model-based approach and maximizing the digital thread, infrastructure stakeholders can prepare for a sustainable, data-driven future that will be the catalyst for the digital twin.

Caltrans, in coordination with our software partners Autodesk, Trimble, and ESRI, is in the process of developing a digital geospatial ecosystem to centralize, standardize, and connect Caltrans' digital data across programs and divisions. New tools in Civil3D 2024 and Trimble Business Center have been developed and are being tested to assist with the needed data interoperability. The system aims to increase engagement, equity, innovation, integrity, pride, safety, climate action, stewardship, and efficiency by using tools of today and working with industry to develop tools of tomorrow. This Caltrans effort will support FHWA initiatives such as BIM4I to streamline data connectivity for Project Delivery and create, maintain, and provide access to a statewide digital catalog of Caltrans assets. The proposed milestones include beta testing new industry tools, creating project delivery dashboards, integrating digital as-built data from Construction's connected data environment, and developing new project delivery products such as mapping on demand and augmented reality in the field.

In this class, you'll learn from a bridge engineer who successfully designed almost 40 bridges using the InfraWorks-centered bridge modeling workflow. You'll see an overview of the workflow and get advice on how to implement it efficiently for a real-world project. Following an overview of the workflow that includes road modeling in Civil 3D software, bridge setup in InfraWorks software, preparation of parametric bridge parts in Inventor software, and production of drawings via Revit software, this class will teach you how to prepare a virtual environment in InfraWorks for ease of workability and sharing of data sources via Autodesk Docs. You'll learn how to exchange the road models between InfraWorks and Civil 3D, including modification of road assemblies for bridge modeling in InfraWorks. This class will demonstrate modeling of individual bridge parts, such as abutments in Inventor or Revit. There are many main subjects for asset management, including maintenance building, earthworks platform, permanent way, overhead lines, signaling, and telecommunications. One specific aspect to the country is to have external project design offices and many subcontractors, using multidisciplinary design management based on Autodesk technologies, including Revit, Civil 3D, Inventor, InfraWorks, and Autodesk BIM Collaborate products. The geographical aspect is taken into consideration through connected building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS). During this class, you will discover why a common data environment platform and products ecosystem save time and information for the delivery plan, and support supply chains, and how process owner mandates can be imposed on local markets, and what solutions are found to develop a business model dedicated to railway infrastructure.

Brazil has undergone significant legislative changes in recent years and has the bold, yet necessary, goal to universalize water and sewage services by 2033. That challenge has driven building information modeling (BIM) implementation in sanitation companies, which encouraged the Brazilian company SANEAGO to use and customize Autodesk Docs and the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection tools for its context. Similar to other sanitation concessionaires, SANEAGO currently deals with large project volume, developed by several different design companies, for the 226 municipalities it operates. This makes document management, standardization, collaboration, project analysis, and project design quite challenging. In this talk, we'll discuss the CAD-BIM transition, covering not only software usage, but also company diagnosis, policies, and project standards establishment, which involves changes in the design processes and in the organizational culture as a whole, in order to raise BIM maturity within the company and its entire ecosystem.

Is this the latest model? Why don't I see the utilities? Why did we even do this in 3D? Engineers do not typically care how construction documents get created; they just want to capture their design intent. This course will go over some exciting new workflows and software that enable civil site and building/facility disciplines to easily reference one another, dynamically. We'll also discuss why engineers and project managers should be adopting the "model first” approach as standard practice for design projects.

The "Canal do Sertão Alagoano" is an important initiative of the Brazilian government that aims to combat drought by providing access to water for various purposes, such as rural and urban human consumption, livestock watering, and irrigation. The successful implementation of this project can serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges. In this session, you'll learn more about the implementation of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) in a 27 km section of an open channel design. We'll highlight the collaboration between the design and construction teams and the clients through a common data environment (CDE). We'll discuss the complexity of 3D modeling for open channels in AutoCAD Civil 3D software, the use of Subassembly Composer to automate channel sections with multilayered earth fill, and the use of self-adjusting earth embankments to accommodate different soil materials. We'll also cover the use of Dynamo for minor automation and Navisworks software for design simulation.

Have you encountered any challenges when creating a site context 3D model for a new project or proposal without sufficient survey data? This class will focus on workflows that will enable you to better create, evaluate, and communicate conceptual designs using InfraWorks software, Civil 3D software, and Revit software. We'll demonstrate how to build concept models from scratch by using the InfraWorks Model Builder tool, and we'll make modifications to the surface in InfraWorks by using imported 2D layout data from AutoCAD software and Civil 3D. Also, we will show the bidirectional workflow between Civil 3D and InfraWorks for grading design options and exporting out as IMX from InfraWorks to Civil 3D and converting them as toposurface in Revit for site work via publishing surfaces and linking topography to and from Autodesk Construction Cloud. Finally, we will cover the best practices to append the InfraWorks-exported FBX into Navisworks software for federated model with collaboration options like Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360 and Shared View/web view links.

According to HABITAT III, roughly a quarter of the world's urban population—equivalent to the combined populations of Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and the United States—lives in slums. In São Paulo, IBGE found that 1.2+ million people live in slums. These areas are becoming increasingly dense, which poses a challenge for sewage and drainage systems. Paraisópolis is the densest slum in São Paulo, and its streams have been occupied by housing. Denver International Airport (DEN) has a campus size of roughly 34,000 acres. DEN Asset Management is tasked with tracking existing and new assets across the entire airport. Learn how the Digital Facilities and Infrastructure (DFI) group in DEN Asset Management manages airport models and asset models. DFI is tracking 200+ projects at the airport. The Autodesk Construction Cloud Asset Module has model linking so that changes to the models are pushed into the Autodesk Build environment in Autodesk Construction Cloud. In this class, you will see a demo of how asset model linking is done based on criteria loaded into the models by our design consultants. DEN is completing an inventory of airfield stormwater structures. You'll learn how the collection of the data via electronic means has saved time and effort. And you'll see how, as an owner, the data can be used as we manage the civil assets into the future across our maintenance and engineering teams.

In this Hands-On Labs, we'll explore the workflows between InfoWorks ICM and AutoCAD Civil 3D. While this is not a superficial, unnecessary, or overly bad sequel, this Hands-on lab will explore real-time collaboration we challenge two teams to execute a whodunnit flood simulation to save the little town of Topper. InfoWorks ICM enables team collaboration and empowers engineers to reach beyond single-purpose tools tools to evaluate various options against a multitude of rainfall events within the context of the entire watershed. This Lab will provide users the opportunity to save the town of Topper - together by leveraging Civil 3D data, and InfoWorks ICMs integrated catchment modeling to evaluate the town for possible flood damages.
