AutoCAD (& verticals) Plant 3D, and Revit all have different workflows with ACC/BIM 360 projects and the Desktop Connector. After many challenging hours I believe I have finally found a way to explain the various ACC/BIM 360 workflows and would like to share this knowledge with everyone else who's also dealing with all these various workflows and collaboration options. Specifically, I'm going to cover working with Revit, Plant 3D, and Civil 3D (same workflows for AutoCAD) with ACC and/or BIM 360 projects. I'll also cover the Desktop Connector 15 and 16 and the differences we've encountered, good and bad.

In the design process of highway projects, applying building information modeling (BIM) technology, using parametric design methods, and delivering complete project models is a challenging task. During the design process, issues such as efficient design workflow, data exchange, model segmentation, WBS info, and digital delivery need to be addressed. With parametric design tools like Dynamo software, engineers can automatically create models and complete property assignments based on project requirements, significantly reducing repetitive work and allowing them to focus more on the design itself. This case study will show you the complete parametric design workflow and data exchange for this highway expansion project, with a focus on parametric modeling using Dynamo and Python. Through parametric modeling via programming, stakeholders can achieve efficiency gains of two to three times compared to manual modeling methods for roadbeds, pavements, bridges, and tunnels.

Navigating the imminent growth in the renewable energy market presents challenges around skills and project data quality. Autodesk tools enable customers to overcome these challenges by investing in upskilling and ensuring high-quality data for their projects. AutoCAD files are critical in this, providing the precision needed, especially with the shift toward 3D designs for energy yield modeling. Well-optimized and structured preconstruction stage designs in AutoCAD can make or break a potential project's funding and eventual construction, thus driving customer value. This panel will explore how Autodesk software can empower customers to unlock the renewable energy sector's potential, overcome bottlenecks, and mitigate risks. By addressing these challenges, users can contribute significantly to achieving the ambitious Net Zero emissions targets and combat climate change, driving positive outcomes for their businesses and the world.

In an ever-changing world of technology, organizations must continually evolve their software use to remain competitive in their industries. This is true whether you work in 3D or with the tried-and-tested 2D AutoCAD software. Openly embracing AI, incorporating automation into design data, and sharing it through Autodesk's cloud environments can also play a vital role in an organization's digital maturity. In this class, we'll discuss how to automate existing AutoCAD blocks to make them into smart, parametrically driven dynamic blocks that allow for variations when used. Dynamic blocks represent good data elements that not only allow you to maintain consistency, but also significantly reduce rework and improve productivity. Who doesn't love that! To finish, we'll discuss one last key factor in driving effective digital maturity: implementing cloud-based processes to centrally store and manage the project data, or, in this case, sharing your dynamic blocks with the other kids (or colleagues).

Railway systems have complex rules to follow during the design phase, and their automation is highly required due to the massive and systematic work that needs to be done, and the very detailed list of materials necessary. The catenary system is one of the most complex systems in railway. Using Civil 3D, Revit, and Dynamo software, we can automate the design process and create the best workflow—which we'll demonstrate in this session, including complex parametric families, and automatic section views for each mast with dimensions. We'll also demonstrate some other systems' design automation, like CCTV and the automatic creation of camera field-of-vision 3D views for the train driver and metro station platform cameras to achieve the best installation criteria and avoid rework during construction phase. Plus, we'll explore how to convert all of these scripts to plug-in buttons with pyRevit.

With the dramatic shift in the diverse use cases of real-time visualization, traditional 3D CAD, high-performance computing, and generative AI across industries, a one-size-fits-all approach is no longer viable. Balancing increasing IT demands, tighter deadlines, and budget constraints necessitates investing in the right technology for the right users at the right time. AI is emerging as the defining technology of our era, and determining where to start can be challenging. In this session, discover how to best equip your organization for success with insights into using Lenovo solutions to maximize your Autodesk experience—from initial steps to hybrid working, generative AI, and larger global deployments—helping you reduce costs and enhance workforce agility.

In today's rapidly evolving design landscape, efficiency and customization are key factors in staying ahead of the curve. With the abundance of existing standard content in AutoCAD Mechanical software, you can now harness the power of these resources to craft your own bespoke mechanical components. Users can pick from more than half a million standard predesigned parts, ranging from nuts and bolts across 18 different standards. By using these standard parts as building blocks, you can significantly expedite your design process and ensure the building of custom content with industry standards. Once you've selected the foundational components, the real magic begins: customization. Whether it's adjusting dimensions, altering materials, or adding intricate details, the ability to tailor each component ensures that the final design aligns perfectly with your vision. By building a library of custom content, you can streamline the design work, reduce redundancy, and maintain consistency in your projects.

Ensuring accuracy in a large set of construction documents can be complicated. Spelling errors, missed annotation, and multiple users on a project can still waste a project's budget time when they don't need to. Automating the keynote creating and editing process can help eliminate these time wasters, saving considerable time and money for some of our most basic needs. This lesson will cover a feature in AutoCAD software that will use an Excel file as one source of truth for keynotes on construction documents. We'll create a table that will be dynamically populated with keynotes as they are used in a drawing, allowing for concise tables that, along with the Excel file, can be updated together to match for the duration of project design. Any engineering discipline using AutoCAD will be able to use this workflow.

If you joined us at last year's AU and attended "A Factory Design Utilities Discussion with Peers on a Successful Deployment," you know the group discussed best practices and what to avoid when implementing Factory Design Utilities software. The information we discussed helped people who'd already implemented it by validating the experiences of others, and helped the people who were planning on implementing it soon. In this session, we'll pick up where last year's ended and focus on best practices for maintaining a successful deployment. We'll especially focus on using simplification workflows to keep file sizes smaller, managing simplified models, and understanding how to update the simplified models automatically when changes happen to the main file. After this session, you'll be able to integrate smaller models into your designs and keep them updated as changes occur.
