This class will focus on how Plastique Métal Technologie (PMT), part of Veolia Water Technologies, has used Fusion 360 features in order to optimize the shape of some parts of their ecological wastewater treatment plants. Veolia will explain how its engineering teams have worked on a few use cases, like optimizing separation plates or exploring new shapes for the bucket wheels through generative design capabilities. With Fusion 360 software, Veolia can redesign key manufacturing parts of the firm’s equipment and reduce material used. It participates in a context of sustainable development to reduce waste and costs (such as transportation and manufacturing costs), and to improve the security during maintenance operation for Veolia customers and employees.

This class will show you how to use InfraWorks software for conceptual design of rail projects and development of proposals and scenarios. You will learn how to use Revit software content in InfraWorks software to create and detail projects and create better presentations; export information to AutoCAD Civil 3D software to analyze and create advanced documentation; and create an advanced model in Revit software, with terrain, infrastructures, rail lines, bridges, roads.

Generative Design opens up new solution spaces because there is more than one way to solve problems. Fusion software’s powerful CAM tools have been extended by additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities to enable workflows directly from design to additive, subtractive, or hybrid production of parts. This class will show an example workflow to apply subtractive preparations, add support structures, and calculate the toolpath for an Aconity Metal AM machine with a generatively designed model—all inside Fusion software. Metal AM processes produce parts of limited surface quality that need subtractive postprocessing. Putting data in the center allows for exploring design options, adding offsets/stock for milling, and calculating laser paths in the same software.

Moving designs from conceptual modelers into Revit software for Building Information Modeling (BIM) and documentation has been a thorn in the side of the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry for years, requiring specialist knowledge or just plain black magic. With the development of the Rhynamo package for Dynamo visual programming language extension (Revit's computational design plug-in), interoperability and model round tripping have never been easier. These case studies will discuss the various successes and pitfalls of how the Woods Bagot Design Technology Team have used a Dynamo-plus-Rhynamo workflow on several globally significant AEC projects over the past year, and emphasize the importance of being able to simultaneously design, document, and deliver at any stage of the project.

Learn how CannonDesign uses a multi-user virtual reality (VR) environment to create shared experiences for collaboration in architectural building models. During this presentation, we’ll cover the build of the environment, basic configuration, and how it was put into production. We'll also give an overview of some of the software used, and look at use cases for both local and remote collaboration.

This class will cover the results of a pilot project between Autodesk, Inc., and the City of Vancouver. The project used InfraWorks software as a platform for rapid energy modeling. Rapid energy modeling is an efficient simulation process used for working with minimal and, in many cases, already-available city building data to quickly generate energy assessments. The ability to visualize and analyze at a range of scales, from the block to the neighborhood, assists in developing strategies to achieve sustainability objectives. We will present the most successful workflows and interoperability workflows between InfraWorks software and other Autodesk tools and services. Equally important, we will review the role of InfraWorks software as a public-engagement tool for energy and built-form issues, presenting complex data and issues in an accessible environment.

Globally, Architecture, Engineering and Consulting (AEC) firms are being asked to conform to mandates for the use of risk-based triple bottom line (TBL) analysis into design decisions starting in the conceptual planning stage. There is an awareness that infrastructure serves the public good and that lowest cost solutions are not sustainable, resilient, or adding to the quality of life of our society. The objective of infrastructure proponents in imposing TBL mandates is to shift from the lowest cost approach to a highest sustainable return on investment approach. The ability to monetize the public benefits of infrastructure via a triple bottom line economic assessment means that designs can be vetted more quickly, stakeholder push-back is reduced, and there is faster approval for the building of more sustainable and resilient infrastructure. This session will show how an AEC firm is helping a public agency use TBL assessment to calculate public value. This session features InfraWorks 360 and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

This panel will include top Building Information Modeling (BIM) practitioners from the different stakeholders involved in the lifecycle of a facility (owners, designers, builders, and manufacturers). We'll discuss standardization along with what information stakeholders want and need in models and families to make their workflows more efficient. We'll explore what information is wanted now and what information we need to plan to include in the future. We'll also discuss shared parameters, multiple level of development (LOD) versions, and other topics that panelists bring into the discussion. This panel will be followed by a roundtable to open up the discussion to all audience members (Revit Stakeholder Roundtable).

At the heart of every utility is a great source of data, but it can be overwhelming to visualize this data, especially when managing several types of utilities and varied types of data. Additionally, it can be valuable to have a solution for conflict resolution to plan projects appropriately and prevent additional construction delays. In this course we will consider InfraWorks for utilities as an in-house Solution that we can use to visualize the current state of the assets' locations and view potential conflicts and model-design possibilities in a 1-stop shop. We will demonstrate how to import various types of data into InfraWorks software, how to utilize the model for the utilities' assets (overhead and underground), and how a utility can work with other stakeholders to prevent conflicts and to preplan complex projects. We will present short case studies from 2 different organizations—the City of Alexandria and Okaloosa Gas District—and we'll show how these organizations are using InfraWorks software to create models for major projects.

Autodesk Generative Design gives users the ability to analytically engineer component models that adhere to multiple design and manufacturing constraints, which are optimized for Additive Manufacturing Processes. To use this tool to its fullest potential, a sound understanding of how it fits into the overall workflow of initial design thru manufacturing. This class will give users the opportunity to explore these workflows, and in doing so gain a good understanding of a successful generative design process..

Intended for intermediate to advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D software users, this class is designed to show land development professionals techniques and nuances for creating renderings and movies of their proposed projects. Utilizing many of the programs provided in Infrastructure Design Suite software (AutoCAD Civil 3D software, InfraWorks software, Revit software, and 3ds Max software), this class will consist of a live demonstration showing how to create compelling and grade accurate visualizations of your site designs. By treating InfraWorks 360 software as a “level builder” we will explore how to composite existing and proposed ground surfaces, build and apply coverages for pavement and pavement markings, and prepare tree surveys for 3D placement. Finally, we will explore the use of InfraWorks software models in real-time game rendering engines. By capitalizing on real-time engines, we can shortcut long rendering times to create accurate visualizations quickly.

This presentation will explore how and when to capitalize on technology to engage a range of stakeholders. Our focus will be on how social factors impact technology, and how they are used to engage stakeholders in major projects such as Salt Lake City International Airport. More than 200 stakeholders are engaged through the airport’s project progress using a massive virtual board, 150 Collaboration For Revit models, and advanced augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) visualization tools. With more than 2,000,000 square feet, $3 billion, 12 years of planning, and 5 years of design and construction, this large infrastructure project has defined a culture of collaboration for a design team of hundreds led by HOK.

The traditional approach calls for engineers to produce both plan view and riser diagrams for plumbing work. This method calls for duplicated information. This is both wasteful and error prone. To achieve a connected BIM (Building Information Modeling) project, we need a way to connect the plan views to the riser diagrams. This can be accomplished using 3D riser diagrams. This demo will cover how to use Revit tools to produce 3D riser diagrams. We will discuss all the benefits to using 3D risers and how to get your project managers on board with using them for construction documents. We will provide examples of how to create, annotate, and manipulate 3D risers to plot clearly and accurately. We will also touch on the typical issues and how to fix or prevent those issues from happening.

In this class you'll learn how InfraWorks 360 software can become a powerful engineering design tool for designing and modeling roads the way an engineer would do it.

With the recent addition of BIM 360 support to InfraWorks software, collaborating on your infrastructure projects has become both easier and much more powerful. This session will focus on the basics of the "BIM 360 to InfraWorks" workflow, including sharing your model, synchronizing, using the Large Model Viewer, and setting up permissions for the team. We'll also explore how to use the collaborative power of BIM 360 to share all of your InfraWorks assets, such as geographic information system (GIS) data sets, AutoCAD Civil 3D files, Revit files, 3D models, overlays, scripts, and other support content.

This lasting impact makes inclusive design our foremost value and responsibility. To do this, we need to develop a deep awareness of the social, cultural, and environmental needs of the people we serve. The proliferation of the digital toolset has given us the ability to transcend traditional architectural practice for the first time in generations. Capitalizing on augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), we have the ability to better understand the people who inhabit our buildings by simulating experiences related to vision, mobility, and communication. We can’t expect to truly comprehend an individual’s contextual and cumulative experiences, but if we are able to tap into others’ abilities and sensorial comprehension, our designs can be more sensitive to the broader community and cause fewer impediments in the built environment.
