Sustainability is one of the key market drivers within the AECO industry, and reducing our carbon footprint is a crucial aspect. However, embodied carbon calculations can be complex and sometimes overcomplicated, developing and/or locating sometimes elusive databases that end up being very costly. This session will present how we integrated an open source database with existing AEC tools to understand and evaluate embodied carbon. Allowing a connected workflow using tools we utilize every day, such as Revit, Dynamo, Rhino, and Grasshopper. We will show the process of developing parameters for material studies and how we are able to automate the alignment of material classification with existing carbon databases so that we could visualize our embodied carbon footprint. With these steps and workflows in place, we are positioning our model to take advantage of Emerging Technologies and working towards building a digital twin model to leverage the lifecycle benefits.
