Resilience and Innovation for Water Infrastructure

New processes enable us to manage our water systems with greater insight and automation



 

It’s easy to take water for granted. The complex systems that provide us with clean, safe water and remove wastewater are often out of sight, and therefore remain out of mind—until there’s a problem. Such problems are becoming increasingly common due to aging infrastructure unfit to meet current needs and extreme weather events caused by climate change, such as the 19 trillion gallons of water Hurricane Harvey dumped on US coastal communities. David Totman of Innovyze shares how new processes like asset performance and risk modeling, water hydraulic modeling, and integrated catchment modeling are helping civil engineers address these challenges in new ways based on new insight. As Innovyze combines its water management capabilities with existing Autodesk toolsets, innovators will be able to improve risk modeling, extreme event response, and asset management planning to ensure better water quality for everyone.

About the speaker

David Totman is the VP of Asset Management at Innovyze. A thought leader in civil asset management, he’s been using CAD and GIS for over three decades in process optimization, project analytics, and infrastructure management. Totman is a senior fellow at the Asset Leadership Network and is a graduate of Civil Engineering at Arizona State University.
