As the title suggests, what owners want (need) from BIM (Building Information Modeling) is worlds away from what architects, engineers, and contractors need to build an owner’s building. This session will discuss BIM-related challenges from the architecture, engineering, and construction professional’s and owner’s perspectives. Once an understanding of each party’s unique needs is established, a road map can be developed that will enable collaboration through design, construction, commissioning, and facilities management. A hopeful outcome of this session is to shed some light on the challenging task of understanding differences that will allow for a clear road map moving forward. This class focuses on the mechanical aspects of the industry: ductwork and piping. We will review Autodesk® Revit® MEP ductwork and piping tools to help you better understand and facilitate your design by analyzing your ductwork and piping systems. We will explore Engineering 101 fundamentals for both ductwork and piping and learn how these concepts are incorporated into Revit MEP, as well as the impacts these fundamentals have on sizing your ductwork and piping systems. This session will present the new DeWalt Corporation Hanger Design plug-in for Revit software, which automates the placement and design of hangers and trapeze assemblies for common MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems, such as pipe, duct, conduit, and cable trays. The placement of these assemblies has historically been based on “rule of thumb” sizing and spacing and/or prescriptive rules from various trade-specific handbooks that do not necessarily comply with current building-code requirements or structural point-load limitations. Modeling MEP systems in Revit software offers many advantages for coordination, prefabrication, consolidation of parallel runs, and placement of cast-in-place hanger inserts. This new tool analyzes these systems, and automatically places hanger/trapeze assemblies, anchors, and seismic bracing per building-code requirements with engineering calculation reports automatically generated. Printing metal parts using additive manufacturing is expansive. Most of the commercialized metal 3D printers involve cutting the metal component off the metal substrate after deposition and subsequent removal of support structure, which itself could be made of metal. Incorrect design considerations can result in distorted parts and impossible-to-remove support structures. Conformal cooling molds are a prime example of where complexity involved in design requires metal additive manufacturing. This online solution, based on Autodesk Forge technology, allows the connection of deep Autodesk Revit knowledge with standardized ERP-Systems like Microsoft Dynamics 365. The Zapper app supports the whole company’s infrastructure in a smart way. This solution allows management, project partners, all employees and clients to collaborate simply and with high efficiency. To enhance customer experience, a mobile app for clients was developed as part of the project. Customers can easily access all the current project data, at any time. With rapid growth in technology—especially in manufacturing processes—coordination between designers, engineers, and shop-floor CNC (computer numerical control) programmers is a challenging scenario. Manufacturers cannot always make designs created by designers and engineers, and they send the designs back to the design team for modification in the part model. Additionally, sometimes the right tools may not be available on the shop floor. To overcome these problems, designers and engineers should obtain a basic knowledge of CNC programming and CNC-code generation, which could reduce the time to market and enhance the company's return on investment. This class covers the steps involved in importing the CAD Model into Inventor HSM integrated CAM Solution for Inventor 2015 software. This process reduces the errors involved during importation and further enables designers and engineers to generate CNC codes and set up models for manufacturability.
