Glass Fused Filament Deposition Modeling

Stefanie Pender’s Fused Filament Deposition Modeling Printer (FFDM) was developed for the application of printing glass. This process emulates standard plastic printers: a tool holds a filament driver that moves a glass fiber through a nozzle. A small dual flame torch melts the glass at 2,000˚F as it exits the nozzle and deposits this melted glass onto a surface. These tools are mounted to a small industrial robot, which is then able to produce complex geometries inside a heated build chamber.
