  • Realistic materials

    VRED, VRED DESIGN, VRED PROFESSIONAL

    Use a wide range of photorealistic material types such as glass, car paint, and metal. Just add the material to the geometry to visualize 3D models within seconds. Each shader is defined according to physical material attributes, and you can also copy and paste material attributes such as diffuse, glossy, and bump. Use VRED Design and VRED Professional to work with layered materials.

  • Powerful lighting options

    VRED, VRED DESIGN, VRED PROFESSIONAL

    Easily control lighting with a variety of features. Use HDR lighting to illuminate an entire scene with a high-dynamic-range picture. Capture the lighting information from a photograph and cast it onto 3D space. Every object within a scene can be defined as a source for object light. VRED also supports area lights, and VRED Professional enables you to visualize ray files and import Osram and Optis spectrum files.

    The camera module’s physical parameters—focal length, shutter speed, f-stop, and depth of field—make elaborate post-processing unnecessary.

  • Measured materials

    VRED PROFESSIONAL

    Use measured materials to visualize realistic material behavior based on captured material data. AxF (Appearance Exchange Format), the new appearance file format from X-Rite, combines measured bidirectional texture function and bidirectional reflectance distribution information. With AxF, a single file stores the entire appearance of a material—such as diffuse color, specularity, and bump—in order to visualize realistic material behavior.

    Efficiently simulate highly detailed surface structure based on texture information, in real time.

  • Subsurface scattering

    Accurately simulate the translucent behaviors of materials such as skin, milk, wax, and plastic.

  • Layered glass material

    VRED DESIGN, VRED PROFESSIONAL

    Single-sided objects can now have a simulated thickness in order to achieve the appropriate index of refraction (IOR). Window surfaces are usually imported as single-sided surfaces, but now the glass material can simulate thickness for a proper IOR. When you enable this option, VRED simulates a solid geometry to render the appropriate IOR.

  • Pre-rendering shadows into geometry

    VRED DESIGN, VRED PROFESSIONAL

    Bake light shadows into geometry to get a more natural view of the object with fewer calculations, providing faster, better-looking results. This works in both raytrace and Open GL modes.
