  • Revolve tool enhancements New

    ALIAS DESIGN, ALIAS AUTOSTUDIO, ALIAS SURFACE

    The Barrel and Helix tools, previously separate tools, are now grouped under a Side Glass surface type as part of the Revolve tool in Alias. Pitch functionality is included in the Revolve options to allow users to create objects like springs and threads.

    Enhanced Bezier surface quality supports segmented rail curves. Improved Proportional Crown lets you choose direction and adjust the surface crown.

    In addition to Shape controls, Freeform Blend uses Form Factor controls in fillet-like situations, which makes it easier to match the shape between blends and fillets.

    Control your final shape and multiple approaches to rotate or slide a profile to touch a curve or surface. Powerful enhancements in profile capability help you create profiled surfaces between two sets of surfaces.

  • 3D Surface Array tool New

    Create an array of objects along any surface in multiple directions in 3D space. This improvement over the 2D array of objects capability supports better productivity.

  • Enhanced Align tool New

    Align now includes multiple improvements, including Center Original options. More power, control, and diagnostics are built in:

    • Continuity options that have been simplified to G0, G1, G2, and G3.
    • Improvements to the Project mode, including new Shrink to Fit and No Curve On Surface options for a projected align. 
    • Onscreen diagnostic feedback, offering rich understanding of design changes.
  • VRED NURBS surface analysis New

    ALIAS AUTOSTUDIO, ALIAS SURFACE

    High-quality surface analysis uses native spline definitions for better accuracy. Evaluate data of the actual smooth NURBS surface for a deeper understanding of your surfaces. This is more accurate and succinct than traditional surface analysis tools that show the curvature of a surface based only on a mesh approximation.

    Create linear reflections on a model in a cylindrical tunnel of lights. Study your surfaces in a virtual lighting studio. The Light Tunnel is a visual surface evaluation tool that provides a controlled lighting and reflection model to help you understand your designs better.

  • Shading in clay New

    ALIAS DESIGN, ALIAS AUTOSTUDIO, ALIAS SURFACE

    Shade your model with a low-specularity clay color to study the subtleties of surface shape and shadow. Temporarily change all of your shaders to a clay material with the Clay with Ambient Occlusion feature. When you're finished, your model goes back to its original form.

  • Isophotes for surface flow New

    ALIAS DESIGN, ALIAS AUTOSTUDIO, ALIAS SURFACE

    Use isophotes—thin, sharp lines that show the path of surface flow—to find possible errors in your design. They can show the movement of sand over a desert or represent the underlying shape of snow in a mountain range. In Alias, this surface evaluation tool highlights spots of the same brightness in your design, alerting you to possible imperfections in your model.
