Buoyant Ecologies

California College of the Arts, Architecture Division

In a semester-long collaboration with Pier 9 in Fall 2014, the CCA Integrated Building Design studio, led by CCA Architecture faculty members Adam Marcus, Margaret Ikeda, and Evan Jones, produced six student proposals for a floating expansion of the Pier 9 Workshop on San Francisco's Embarcadero.

Their futuristic designs take into account not only the needs of the building occupants, but also the ecology of the harbor where the floating structure would be moored, to create unique underwater habitats for sealife in the bay. Their work will be presented in an exhibition at the Autodesk Gallery opening March 31, 2015.
