You asked and we delivered. Users just like you voted more than 20,000 times on Idea Station for improvements in Autodesk® Inventor® 2017 — and now they’re here, along with lots of additional features we think you’ll love. From core modeling enhancements to amazing new capabilities, these improvements can help you create higher-performing designs, coordinate development across your team, and get your job done faster. And as always, they’re available to subscribers before anyone else.
Last year, we introduced a whole new way to design efficient, lightweight parts generated from the basic constraints you specified. We called it Shape Generator, and this year it’s better than ever, with more control over how the model is created — including mass targets, minimum thickness, and symmetry. In addition, we’re adding more interactive controls to size and position regions preserved from the optimization.
This year we’re adding Reference Model support for even more file types, including the neutral, industry standard STEP format. And you’ll find significant improvements to the Reference Model update behavior for CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, NX, and Pro-E/Creo files. We’re even adding support for importing mesh data so you can treat it just like any other 3D CAD data.
The tools you use in Inventor are getting better in so many ways. You’ll find a new tool to help you better understand the relationships between all the features in your design, easier access to cross-part references, sketch-driven patterning to help you quickly create uniquely repeated geometry, and much more. We’re also improving 3D sketch commands to be faster and easier to use, giving you greater control. And enhancements to tube and pipe make it faster than ever to create flexible hose routes in your designs.
The latest version of Inventor makes it easier than ever to share your designs with others, keep your entire team on the same page, and get feedback. And creating technical documentation is easier too, with an updated Presentation environment for creating animations, exploded views, and snapshots, with a brand-new, timeline-based story panel to manage it all. Then export your models into a PDF with new 3D PDF support for anyone to view — anywhere, on any device.
Now we’re also including access to Fusion 360TM for Autodesk Product Design Suite subscribers, so you can explore the next generation of product design and manufacturing. Working with Fusion 360 will help you move beyond the traditional categories of CAD, CAM, Simulation, and Data Management to a single collaborative platform that does it all. Best of all, as a subscriber, you already have it.
As an Autodesk subscriber, you’ll always have access to the latest capabilities — often before anyone else. In addition, you’ll get:
