Kerf Cutting Timber

Nick Polansky

This project is an exploration in stretching, bending and expanding wood with a waterjet cutter. Following the cutting process, the wood was then steamed and stretched into place using insert dowels, resulting in a range of effects. The objects produced by this process can be used as furniture, screens, and columns. The expanded state of the wood maximizes the structures’ performance and durability.
